Intellectualization

On Friday, I went to Keshapat panchyet of Panskura-1, Purba Medinipur. I am thankful to Shri Sabyasachi of CBWE and Shri Bimal Kumar Jana, Panchayet Pradhan for the support.

I asked the farmers about reasons behind number of seedling in one seedling hill, the reasons behind inter seedling hills distance and inter paddy line distance.

They failed to give answer.

One farmer said a poem :

Dekha dekhi kari chas
Laga lagi kari bas

It means that we are just copying and stay in close.

They are interested to know the reason. But who can intellectualize them and how ?

Deganga visit

Today is 4th October, 2010, I organized training program at Beliakhali village of Parputna mouza JL 45 of Deganga block by the support of Shri Nilangshu Gain of Swanirbhar, located at Baduria nearby Kalsur Uchcha Madhyamik Bidyalaya. Shri Biplab De Sarkar of our unit was with me.

Here cultivation is centered around jute and paddy. The path to the cottage is like:
In this year, due to insufficient rain water, farmers are emotionally shocked. Mr. Hakim, Ex-panchayet sabhapati introduced me the Baikhar lake , a very big water base like river. He has planning to start fish culture, deckery along with jute soaking.

Here almost 300 households are living with 5 persons per family approximately. There is no electricity here though some pillars are there. There is no electricity in the primary school where the training program is organized.

Here, farmers use chemical fertilizers without soil testing. No agriculture officer visited this place recently. Last visit of AO in 1998 for seed distribution.
This results total dependence on private players. They do not test viability of fertilizers in the small plot of land before its use in the large area. Their return of investment is severely affected by the labour, cost of fertilizers and insecticides.

Jaguipara, Budbud

Yesterday, I met farmers of Jaguipara. All of them were Muslims. The village is far away from main road. The farmers collected money regularly for development of own villages when there was no panchayet system. It included:

1. Construction of road link to bus route
2. Construction of library to keep books on farming and agriculture
3. Welfare schemes
4. Others

Now, they regularly attended different training programs conducted in Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Budbud. They heard of Kishan credit card, soil testing etc. They wanted to know more about distinction between friendly and enemy insects.

KVK started polylabs where in they started seed village.

From there, on behalf of Dr. Rahman, Chief of KVK, Budbud, I felicitated students secured high marks in SF and HS in the villages around. This was organized by KVK. There I met Grameen Bank officers. Dr. Jana, Scientist in Veterinary gave speech with me. In my speech, I emphasized on learning by gardening. Tanmoy Adhikary assisted me there.

Narahari Das: A story

Few months back, I went to Nabaukhra village. Farmers initially protested - Sir, we will not hand over land to you.

Finally, they were assured of no land transfer issue is involved in this meeting.

They told me a story of Narahari Das.

Narahari Das fed his two sons and their family members. Two sons were nonworking though they were competent enough to do work.

When his two sons were children, he told them not to do cultivation but to study for job.

Finally, they completed college education but no job.

For the same, Narahari feeds them.
